Many of these products have become a staple in my skincare arsenal; and I have them reordered before I run out. Here’s the list of everything in my beauty trash bin. Benefits & Risks of Radio Frequency

Radio frequency has been a modality for skin tightening and collagen building that I’ve used for many years. There are so many RF devices on the market; it’s hard to know where to start when buying an RF device. In this post and the video included, I’ll share a few devices worth considering based on my experience and results.

In on clinical study – RF produced noticeable clinical results, with high satisfaction and corresponding facial skin improvement. Compared with the baseline, there was a statistically significant increase in the mean of collagen types I and III, and newly synthesized collagen

What is radio frequency? Radio frequency is a modality of skin tightening that uses an electromagnetic device to generate heat to stimulate collagen, elastin, and new skin cells. The result is a tightening result in the skin.

This more robust professional grade RF device featured at the right, is available at PlasmaPerfecting.com – Discount code STACY500 for $500 Off

The conclusion of that study was that RadioFrequency is an effective and valuable procedure that can be used to tighten and rejuvenate photoaged skin, and contour facial skin laxity. This modality stimulates the repair process, and reverses the clinical, and the histopathological, signs of aging, with the advantage of relatively risk-free procedure and with little downtime.

I’ve used many RF devices over the years, but the one I use most at home is the MLAY Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device. This device has given me the best results facial skin tightening and contouring and use for body fat and tightening. It comes with different head attachments to use for both face and body.

The video below will go into more detail about the benefits of RF and the risks that are associated as far as facial fat loss. There are things to consider before investing in radio frequency. I hope the video is helpful!

How to Improve Skin Texture & Radiance

I get asked almost every day if there are affordable ways to improve skin texture and radiance. Although this is a concern across all age groups, it becomes more of a concern as we age. As cellular turnover of the skin slows through our lifetime, the skin has a tendency to lose it’s youthful glow; becoming rough and dull. Below you’ll find the video live stream addressing this concern if you care to watch.

First, it’s important to do a fundamental skincare audit! These steps should be incorporated into your skincare routine if they are not already. I’ll share several products that are budget friendly, that I use and love personally.

Cleanse every single night! Never go to bed with dirty skin.

  • If you have normal to dry or sensitive skin, CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a fantastic option. Your cleanser doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to clean the skin. I always suggest speding a bit more money in treatment products than cleanser!
  • If you have combination to oily skin, CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser is a great choice. As someone who has dry skin, I reach for this cleanser once or twice a week for a deeper pore cleanse. If used too often on dry skin, it can create some sensitivity, so always listen to your skin. Salicylic acid is oil soluable, anti bacterial, and penetrates more deeply into the pores. This is a great cleanser to rotate in with a more gentle cleanser. Personally, I rotate the two CeraVe cleansers listed above.
  • Another great option for normal, combination, and dry skin, is the Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser. This is an absolutely beautiful cleanser, and so affordable. This cleanser doesn’t strip your skin barrier or leave your skin feeling dry after cleansing. It’s been one of my all time favorites for over five years. I always have it on hand.

Vitamin C Serum – Topical Vitamin C Serum, used in the morning, promotes healthy cell turnover. Although it’s not an acid or chemical exfoliant, it has many benefits including brightening the skin, boosting sun protection, and smoothing rough and bumpy skin. When in doubt about the fundamentals of a good skincare routine, remember to be a skincare ACE. Vitamin A (retinol), Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.

Exfoliate – A highly effective and affordable option AHA chemical exfoliant is Alpha 14% Glycolic Serum. For those who are not sensitive and want to include both an AHA (like glycolic) and a BHA (salicylic) The Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Univerals Daily Peeling Pads are a bit of a pricier option, but they are fantastic!

Retinol – I personally use a presciption strength tretinoin in the evenings from Curology.com, but there are so many fantastic over the counter retinols now. One I use on my neck and chest, and love almost as much as my prescription tretinoin is the Naturium Retinaldahyde 0.5%, retinol requires two conversations to get to the active state, which is retinoic acid, Naturium Retinaldahyde is one step ahead of retinol in it’s conversion to retinoic acid, making it the closest thing you can get to tretinoin without a prescription.

  1. Moisturize – Topical moisturizers, are a necessary step in keeping the skin soft and supple. Skin that is dry will always appear more textured and dull compared to skin that is well moisturized. Avoiding dehydration by drinking plenty of water is also very helpful in keeping your skin it’s most radiant.

Sunscreen – This is a must! Every day. Year round. The sun is the #1 contributor to skin damage and aging. Protecting your skin from UV damage goes a long way in improving skin texture and radiance.

AT HOME TREATMENTS

A TCA peel is a fantastic way to rejuvenate skin texture, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and glow. I always recommend starting at a 13% TCA, and moving your way up to a stronger peel over time. Jumping into a strong peel right out of the gate is a HUGE MISTAKE.

  • The peel I love is the 13% TCA Peel from Platinum Skincare – Discount STACY10 provides 10% off discount site wide. They have incredible products, and educational videos.
  • Joves Blacked Photofacial Rejuvenation Device – Discount code KGA70B This device provides a photo facial at home. This photo facial device improves sun damage, hyperpigmentation, red spots, wrinkles, and facial spider veins.
  • Nira Pro – Discount code STACY10 The Nira Pro device is a bit different in it’s technology than the Joves Blacked Photofacial device which is a DPL at home treatment. NIRA’s patented non-fractional, non-ablative laser technology enables you to achieve the same clinical-grade results as professional fractional (or ablative) laser treatments, but at home, at a fraction of the price, and without any side effects.

Microneedling is an excellent way to improve skin texture, luminosity, and build collagen. I recommend monthly microneedling for cumulative improvement over time. If you are new to Microneedling, can find DIY Microneedling videos at GorgeouslyAging.com An affordable, yet high quality option for microneedling, is Lanbelle EGF Ampoule. Not all serums are safe to needle into the skin, so please be careful. If you do not yet have a Microneedling device. I recommend the Dr. Pen M8

Two of my favorite professional grade skin boosters are HyalDew Shine $40 and Rejuran PN $269 – Discount code STACY10 for 10% off site wide at Acecosm.com Both of these products can be used for both Microneedling and for Mesotherapy. Find How-to vides at GorgeouslyAging.com

The wig I wore in this video can be found here.

I hope some of these suggestions help you to improve your skin texture and radiance!

MY MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE – Winter 2023

Hey friends.

My morning skincare routine is a time for me to put on a good podcast and mentally prepare for the day ahead. I always make a point of making my skincare routine (both morning, and especially evening) time that I slow down and focus on self care.

Here are the products I’m using currently. Some are very affordable, but a few are a bit more spendy, but worth the splurge!

Video Below (Product links are in bold)

Hada Labo HA Foaming Cleanser This cost affective cleanser is a gentle cleanser perfect for morning and appropriate for all skin types. It won’t strip the skin’s moisture barrier, and leave the skin feeling beautiful.

Foreo Luna Mini 3 I used a clarisonic for YEARS until I started getting irritation from it. The Foreo Luna Mini gives the skin a gentle massage and increases blood flow. It’s much easier to clean than my clarisonic was and doesn’t hold bacteria. A very similar, more budget friendly option is here.

Jing Jun Sung Soothing Skin Moisture Essence This essence is a wonderful way to prep and even out the skins porosity before applying active skin care ingredients. It’s light but hydrating; a staple in my skincare routine for years is a good essence as a toner.

Timeless Vitamin C Serum – Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect against sun damage. With consistant use it brightens the skin and helps to even the complexion. It’s been scientifically proven to be one of the heavy hitters in good skincare. Not all vitamin c serums are good, however. Timeless is in an air tight container and contains the most effictive form of Vitamin C, which is L Ascorbic Acid. The timeless serum is not only effective, but affordable.

Tula Wrinkle Treatment Drops – If you haven’t tried anything by Tula, start with the Wrinkle Treatment Drops. This is a retinol product that I use in the morning (because I use tretinoin at night) If you do not use a retinol in your evening routine, the Tula Wrinkle Treatment Drops would be a great way to start. Because it’s in a Squalane base, it’s super gentle on the skin!

Alpha Skincare Glycolic Serum 14% As we age our skin doesn’t regenerate as quickly as it did when we were young. Regular exfoliation with a gentle acid makes such a big difference on the skins tone, texture and radiance. When adding new active ingredients into your skincare routine, always proceed slowly. Try using this glycolic serum once or twice a week and increase to daily if your skin tollerates it. Alpha is a very affordable brand that I’ve used for years.

Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Serum – I’m so impressed with Biossance. The products are thoughtfully formulated with high quality ingredients include squalane oil. I love how radiant, hydrated and plump my skin looks with the Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Skin Plumping Serum. Copper Peptide improves and protects the skin barrier, which is so important as we age.

Arc Sonic Toothbrush Before I got my Arc Sonic Toothbrush I used a Sonicare toothbrush. It was much larger than the Arc and had to sit on a charging base. I love the size of the Arc and the fact that it doesn’t have to sit out on my counter on a base. It’s less expensive than the Sonicare and provides the same powerful cleaning as the more expensive versions.

Elf Lip Exfoliator My daughter, Bella, got me the ELF Lip Exfoliator as a gift several years back, and I’ve been repurchasing ever since. It’s so inexpensive and does a great job exfoliating dry lips. The bullet design is easier to use that dipping your fingers into a jar, and the combination of sugar and oils leave the lips feeling soft. Best of all it’s only $5.

Biossance Marine Algae Eye Cream As far as eye creams go, I’ve definitely spent a lot more on medical grade eye creams that didn’t really do much more than hydrate the under eye skin. The Biossance Marine Alge Eye Cream is a luxurious cream texture that leaves my under eyes feeling smooth and supple all day. I love how it wears alone or under makeup.

Tula Vitamin C Moisturizer Combination products are becoming so much more commonplace. Using this you could skip the stand alone vitamin C Serum that I listed above. Because I’m a bit of a freak about getting as much of the powerhouse ingredients into my skin care regimin, I prefer to depend on my Timeless Vitamin C Serum, but enjoy that this Tula Moisturizer also contains vitamin c. I look at this product as moisturizer more than a treatment product.

Biossance Sheer Zinc Sunscreen I’ve tried A LOT of sunscreens over the past decade and this one is my all time favorite. It feels beautiful on the skin and gives great sun protection. I known I preach sun protection, but it’s so important!! If you get a chance to try the Biossance Sheer Zinc Sunscreen, you won’t be disappointed! (If you have really oily skin, you may be better with the Elta MD UV Clear.

Colorescience Total Eye This holy grail product is one I have purchased over and over since it was first launched. This could replace the Biossance eye cream to simplify your skincare routine. The Colorescience Total Eye brightens, moisturizes, and provides sun protection for the delicate eye area. It’s FANTASTIC!

Aquaphor I use Aquaphor for so many things, but I love it on the lips both morning and night. It’s also great to put a small bit under the eyes. If you haven’t tried slugging, it’s great for treating areas of dryness and plumping up fine lines and wrinkles.

TARGET HAUL – February 2023

Hey Friends.

Now that I’m living in the mountains, I’m about 45 minutes away from the nearest Target. Needless to say I don’t get there as often as I use to when we lived just a few minutes away from a Target. I’ve definitely learned to embrace online shopping, I’m so grateful that technology allows us access to shop in a way that wasn’t possible when I was young. Having said that, I do miss browsing sometimes, so I do get to an actual Target store once a month just to browse and have that shopping experience where I put things in an ACTUAL cart.

Here are all the things I picked up in my February Target Haul. Have you used any of these products? I’d love to hear what you’re using and loving from Target!

Here’s what I scored from Target: (Video below)

Benefits of Copper Peptides in Skincare

Latest fad or science? What should we know about the power of Copper Peptide? What exactly does it do for our skin?

Copper peptides are now one of the most hyped skincare trends and it is fully backed by science!

Let’s take a deep dive to get to know this research-backed, magical skincare ingredient.

One of my affordable favorites is Complete Copper Peptide Serum. (click link for more information)

How Do Copper Peptides Work?

As the name suggests, it is a compound made of copper and peptides.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that build proteins. They signal the skin to produce some vital complex molecules like – elastin, collagen, and keratin.

Now, these three molecules play the most crucial role in maintaining skin health and youthfulness.

These fibrous proteins provide structural support to the skin cells, improve skin resilience, protect skin from damage, and promote healing.

As we age, the amount of these proteins present in the skin naturally declines. As a result, the skin starts losing its youthful appearance.

Adding the right peptides to your regular skincare routine can help to reduce the depletion of these proteins in the skin. That improves overall skin health and appearance.

Now that we have discussed peptides and how they can enhance your skincare, it’s time to focus on the other element – Copper.

Copper is an essential nutrient for the human body. It plays a vital role in producing red blood cells, maintaining healthy bones, nerves, and blood vessels.

But that’s not all!

Copper has properties that make it an excellent active ingredient for use in skincare.

It helps in the synthesis and stabilization of skin proteins like collagen and elastin. Promotes synthesis of natural skin barrier against free radicals. Also, inhibits oxidative damage at the cellular level.

Top it with potent biocidal properties that keep infection-causing or harmful organisms at bay.

To produce copper peptides, copper is bound to peptides to carry it into the deeper levels of the skin. The tripeptide GHK (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) along with copper (Cu) is used in the most potent copper peptides-based skincare.

GHK-Cu has a wide range of skin benefits including anti-aging and healing.

Skin Benefits of Copper Peptides

You can enjoy a range of skin benefits by using potent copper peptides-based products in your skincare regime. The most prominent benefits include,

  • Reduces skin wrinkles: Copper peptides promote synthesis of collagen and elastin in the skin, helping in the visible reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
  •   Improves skin elasticity: High amount of collagen and elastin synthesis induced by copper peptides naturally improves skin elasticity and resilience.
  • Improves skin texture: By promoting collagen synthesis and reducing collagen breakdown in the skin copper peptides help to improve overall skin appearance.
  • Promotes even skin tone: It boosts the natural healing process of the skin, reduces age spots, acne scars, and general hyperpigmentation caused due to sun/heat exposure.
  • Improves natural skin barrier: Copper peptides have antioxidant properties and can be helpful to reduce skin inflammation. It may also protect skin from common infections to some extent.

How To Include Copper Peptides in Your Skincare?

Copper peptides are most commonly available in the form of serums and creams. This potent compound shows maximum benefits when you use it in skincare products that stay on the skin for long.

You can include copper peptides-based facial serums or creams in your AM as well as PM routine. Using copper peptides twice every day can give the best results.

Yet, depending on the formula you are using there may be some changes. So, check the product label before using and make sure that it has the right concentration of copper peptides.

Copper peptides promote repair and healing of the skin at the cellular level. Hence using it during the night, when the skin’s natural renewal process is at its peak, is certainly beneficial.

If you are using copper peptides in the form of a water-based serum, top it with a heavier oil or moisturizer for maximum absorbency.

Ingredients That You Can Use with Copper Peptides

Remember, using any particular ingredient simultaneously with copper peptides will not enhance its effectiveness. To keep it simple, you can use the serum directly on your cleansed skin and top it up with a proper moisturizer to finish.

You may also combine it with other active ingredients that promote skin hydration and repair. Copper peptides can be safely combined with actives like,

  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Niacinamide

Every skin is unique. So, if you are starting with a new skincare regime, always keep an eye on how your skin behaves to the treatment. Adjust it according to your skin needs.

There are certain active skincare ingredients that might hinder the overall effect of copper peptides and vice versa. So, avoid using these ingredients together.

Ingredients That You Should Not Use with Copper Peptides

  • Vitamin C
  • Retinol
  • Alpha hydroxy acids
  • Beta hydroxy acids

IMPORTANT! You might use these products on alternate days, or at other times when you are not using copper peptides. I use copper peptide almost every day as an after dinner skin care product, waiting several hours to use my curology prescription tretinoin right before bed to avoid using the copper peptide and Retinol together.

If you are using an AHA/BHA based skin exfoliator during the day, it is best to use the copper peptides at night. In case you want to use both in your PM routine, make sure that you maintain a time gap after washing off the exfoliator properly.

Side Effects of Copper Peptides

Copper peptides-based skincare products are generally safe, and they are much gentler than actives like retinol. Yet, overuse may lead to toxicity and other side effects.

Those allergic to copper peptides might experience redness, itchiness, or a prolonged burning sensation on your skin right after application. In such cases, stop using the product immediately. A patch test 24 hours before the application is the best way to go.

Who Should Not Use Copper Peptides?

Copper peptides are generally safe and gentler. Unless you are allergic to it, you can use it in the right concentration following a proper regime.

Note, copper peptides are not directly included in the list of skincare ingredients that you should not use during pregnancy. Yet, if you are pregnant, ask your dermatologist or ob-gyn before using any skincare actives in your routine.

Now you know everything about copper peptides and how you can amp up your skin care for maximum anti aging benefits. If you are planning to include some new effective ingredients in your skincare, copper peptides are a great choice.

Current Body LED Facemask Review & Video

It was a few years ago that I discovered the benefits of Red LED light and near infra red light for facial rejuvenation and anti aging. The first mask I purchased was a hard plastic mask from Amazon. At the time, I was skeptical of red light therapy and really wanted to save a few hundred dollars over the higher priced masks I had researched. Although I was extremely excited when I received my first mask and used it religiously, it was uncomfortable and I didn’t really see the results I was hoping for. It was pretty much $200 down the drain.

Eventually I purchased the flexible (and much more comfortable) Boost mask, which I absolutely loved and saw results in about 4 weeks. It was a bit of a splurge at just over $500, but the science behind red LED for anti aging was strong. I was committed to using this the LED mask each morning before getting out of bed. With consistency came results. Red LED is a ritual for me and a part of my anti aging routine that I’ll continue.

More recently I have been testing the CurrentBody LED Mask (Code STACY10 for discount), which is very similar in design, slightly more stiff, but almost identical specs as far as LED. The benefit of the CurrentBody LED Mask is price! I’m always searching for ways to get the same benefits for less to save my subscribers from spending more than they have to.

You can check out the Current Body LED Mask here: https://tidd.ly/3Gk1OgP

Discount Code: STACY10 for 10% off.

DIY Dermaplaning

One of the best things I do for my skin is dermaplaning, a fancy way of shaving and exfoliating the face. When I tell people that this simple thing will change their skin, they usually express fear of getting a beard. Unless you have an over abundance of testosterone, dermaplaning or shaving the face with a razor will not increase the amount of hair on the face or encourage hair growth. The disposable scalpel I use ensures a sterile tool each time. You can check that out here.

This video will give you some helpful tips. If you’re not comfortable using a scalpel, using a good face razor is something I still use periodically when I want to quickly shave and exfoliate my face.

Benefits of dermaplaning include:

  1. Immediate results. Dermaplaning will immediately exfoliate and smooth the skin, leaving it more radiant.
  2. Skincare products absorb more effectively. Exfoliation and the removal of fine hair allows for improved penatration of active skincare products.
  3. Lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  4. Triggers regeneration of skin cells.
  5. Low Risk – Dermaplaning is an easy, yet impactful way to rejuvenate the skin.

The bottom line

Although there are many benefits to dermaplaning, there are also some things to look out for. Dermatologists do not recommend this procedure for patients with cystic acne, those with excessively oily skin, or people with hirsutism or excessive hair growth.

Microneedling with Syniro PDRN

PDRN skin treatments are a type of skin injectable, comprising biological molecules called Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), that helps to reverse signs of aging and scars through promoting skin repair. Although it’s theoretically more effective as a Mesotherapy treatment it can also be effective when used with Microneedling.

PDRN is a naturally-occurring building block in your DNA that helps to repair damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production. I personally find PDRN to have incredible benefits on my aging skin including improved radiance, tone and texture of the skin.

Microneedling regularly, regardless of the skin booster used, is a treatment worth considering for it’s rejuvenating benefits. Have you tried PDRN? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. 🙂

You can find Syniro PDRN at Acecosm.com – The discount code STACY10 can be used for 10% off site wide.

My favorite Microneedling tool is the Dr. Pen M8 which pays for itself in one at home treatment.

DIY Dermaplaning for Better Skin | Tutorial & Benefits

When I use to tell my friends that shaving my face was one of my best beauty secrets, their first reactions was, “You’re going to grow a beard!!” That’s just not true. Face shaving, or dermaplaning, is an effective way to exfoliate the skin and remove fine hairs from the skin. The benefits go far beyond what you’d think including:

  1. Smoother skin texture
  2. Skincare products absorb more effectively for improved performance
  3. Improvement in fine lines
  4. Pore refinement
  5. Makeup goes on skin better with the removal of peach fuzz and hair
  6. Lessens the appearance of hyperpigmentation
  7. Skin looks more luminous and healthy

Verso Skincare with Retinol 8

I had heard about Verso Skincare and had it on my radar for a while when SkinStore.com reached out to me requesting a collaboration. It was the perfect time to do a deep dive into what Verso products are all about and experience Retinol 8 for myself.

Verso is definitely a luxury line of products, and the price reflects that. Although some may not find this price point to be on the higher end, my thrifty nature views it as a splurge. I don’t mind spending a little bit more on products I know will use, love and produce the results I’m hoping for, and Verso will definitely be a product line that I go back to periodically. I always ask myself this one simple questions when reviewing a product that was sent to me for review. Would I buy this with my own money? The answer to that with Verso is yes. Especially the Lip Serum with Retinol 8. I use it every day, and quite honestly, I wouldn’t have even thought about a retinol lip product before discovering Verso. (Video below)

“Retinol 8, the Vitamin A complex used in Verso products, is eight times as efficient as traditional retinol and half as irritative – and thus more gentle to the skin.”

So what is Retinol 8? Retinol 8, the Vitamin A complex used in Verso products, is eight times as efficient as traditional retinol and half as irritative – and thus more gentle to the skin. For those of us who have used retinol/retinoids the frustration of retinol irritation is real. Not once did I have irritation or dryness using the Verso Retinol 8 products.

To offset the cost of the Verso products, I do have a 25% off discount code. Use code STACY for 25% off site wide at SkinStore.com (Note: some exclusions do apply. Many links are affiliates. Thank you for supporting Gorgeously Aging)

Botox Facial | Baby Tox

When I first heard of the Botox facial, also called the Babytox Facial, I was skeptical to say the least. I thought this was just another way for the medical community to charge a premium for toxin. The more I studied, the more curious I was and wanted to see how my skin responded to this treatment

The Botox Facial (Any tox can be used) is a shallow depth treatment effecting the skin only and not the underlying muscle. It can be done at shallow depth with a microneedling Pen, Dermaroller, or stamp. The benefits include refined pore size, tighter skin, improvement of fine lines and wrinkles and increased skin luminosity. I shoot for a schedule of every 2-3 months for my tox facials at home.

Please keep in mind that I do have a background in Aesthetics and have been in the beauty industry for over 30 years as a spa owner. Although this is a very easy treatment to do, caution is required when microneedling and handling toxin. Discount Codes | Save $$$

I can’t even tell you how many THOUSANDS of dollars I’ve saved doing my own skin care and facial rejuvenation at home. It’s well into the tens of thousands! It took some dedication to study and learning safety protocol, but with dedication came ability, confidence, and the realization that these procedures are truly not that difficult. This is what the medical community doesn’t want you to know! If everyone knew how easy botox was, the medical community would lose millions every year. You can buy a full 100 unit vile of toxin for $90, which would cost $1500 (at least) in a Med Spa. Retinol vs. Retinoid – Everything You Need to Know

Retinoids are a girls best friend! But what are they, really?

“Retinoids are a girls best friend!”

Retinoid is a general term for all topical vitamin A treatments, both prescribed and over the counter, however retinoid is often used by dermatologists to describe Tretinoin, a prescription drug (and 20 x stronger) than over the counter Retinol. Retinoids (think Retin-A and Tretinoin)  are a group of compounds derived from vitamin A. They help speed up cell turnover rate and unclog pores. Retinoids are essential for preventing wrinkles, diminishing fine lines, and exfoliating on a cellular level. They also reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen, as well as stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which improves skin color. Additional benefits include fading age spots and softening rough patches of skin. However, it takes three to six months of regular use before improvements in wrinkles are apparent—and the best results take six to 12 months.

What is it?

Retin A is the brand name for the topical generic brand medication Tretinoin (other prescription retinoids include Adapalene and Tazarotene) that is only available by prescription.  Retin A is a synthetic form of Vitamin A, as well as retinoic acid. This means the body does not have to convert anything, allowing it to work faster and be more powerful. Results can be seen in as little as six to eight weeks!

Tips for Using Retinoids without irritation!

Go slow! If you’re anything like me when I first started using tretinoin, I wanted to see the results so I went into it WAY TOO FAST. Trust me when I say you don’t want to do this. Start by using your retinol or prescription tretinoin every third night for the first week, then if you’re skin tolerates it move to every other night. Just a pea size amount on towel dry skin. If you’re prone to irritation, you can apply moisturizer to your skin before your retinol or tretinoin as a buffer until your skin acclimates. I stayed at every other night with my tretinoin for quite a long time before I moved to every night. There are still times I back off when my skin is telling me it needs a break. The benefits are huge if you take it slow, hydrate, and listen to your skin. If you have irritation from a retinoid, Avene Cicalfate + is wonderful! I can’t live without that stuff.

What I use

I use prescription Tretinoin from Curology.com at night, which is a customized medical grade formula that is sent to my door monthly. My information and skin concerns are viewed by a healthcare professional who ensures I am being prescribed and sent products that will work for my skin. It’s super simple, and was less expensive than getting my tretinoin from a med spa. Another option is to ask your Doctor to prescribe you tretinoin, which is often prescribed for acne treatment.Benefits: Retin A

  • Accelerates the removal of dead skin cells.
  • Keeps pores clear.
  • Natural exfoliant that improves skin texture.
  • Prevents inflammatory and cystic acne.
  • Lighten dark spots and erase hyperpigmentation.
  • Promotes collagen synthesis and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Side Effects: Retin A

  • Skin may get worse before it gets better.
  • Dryness and redness of the skin.
  • “Retinoid Reaction” may occur.
  • A period where some peeling and mild irritation is noticeable.

Note: Be sure to consult your doctor if you think Retin A is something you would like to add to your skincare regimin. Pregnant women or women who are considering becoming pregnant should consult their obstetrician before using or continuing the use of Retin A or other retinoids.Retinol: What is it?Retinol is a gentler derivative of vitamin A and can be found in lots of over-the-counter skin care products (i.e. moisturizers, serums, eye creams). Retinol is milder; therefore, enzymes in our skin must first convert it into retinoic acid. After conversion, it becomes effective. This is why it takes longer to see results using Retinol versus Retin A/Tretinoin. Retinol is available without a prescription and is found in many over the counter cosmetics and skincare products. It can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks to start see results with retinol products.

  • Prevents the formation and appearance of wrinkles.
  • Smoothes out existing fine lines.
  • Brightens dull skin by exfoliating at a cellular level, which results in brighter, smoother skin.
  • Regulates oily skin and minimizes breakouts.
  • Fades dark age spots, sun spots and hyperpigmentation.
  • Evens out complexion over time.

Side Effects: Retinol

  • Dryness, redness and irritation of the skin.
  • Breakouts can occur when retinol is first added to your routine.
  • Potential increase in sun sensitivity.
  • (low percentage of retinol users experience this side effect)
  • Flaking and peeling of the skin.

A Few Over the Counter Retinol Options I’ve Tried

The Ordinary Retinol Serum with Squalene (amazon link)This retinol is one that I really love. Because I use a prescribed (Curology.com) tretinoin in the evening, and my skin is acclimated after years of tretinoin use, I use retinol in the morning. The squalene is a great buffer if you have a tendency for irritation.

CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum The CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum is pretty awesome. So much so that both of my teenage daughters use it. This is a product that has been purchased over and over in my house. We use both versions the image above my daughters use. The purple packaging (which is linked above) is the anti-aging version. Both are fantastic.

Paula’s Choice Retinol Treatment I went through a phase of using a ton of Paula’s Choice, and I have truly loved the products. The Paula’s Choice Retinol Treatment is definitely one to try; excellent quality and packaging, but more than twice the price of the CeraVe.

Verso Super Facial Serum with Retinol 8 This bad boy is pricey, but I have to say, I’ve never been disappointed with a Verso product. If you want to treat yourself, Verso is a nice splurge.

Mesotherapy: Everything you Need to Know

Photo From: PDRN Meso Therapy & Microneedling **Part 1** Younger Skin  Watch Video Here

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a treatment technique that uses tiny shallow injections of  skin boosters such as vitamins, stem cells, and hyaluronic acid,  to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. Mesotherapy can also be used with fat dissolving compounds to treat the submental (under chin) fat, jowls and body fat.

Boosters I love include: (Code STACY10 for 10% off site wide at Acecosm.com)

Syniro PDRN

Curenex

Dermaheal SR

Mesotherapy is used to…

  • Remove fat in areas such as the stomach, thighs, hips, legs, arms, face, and more.
  • Reduce cellulite
  • Smooth wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reduce the appearance of scars
  • Tighten loose skin
  • Lighten pigmented skin
  • Treat alopecia

How Does it Work?

The technique used in mesotherapy uses very fine needles to deliver a series of injections into the middle layer of the skin, called the Mesoderm. The idea behind mesotherapy is that it corrects underlying issues, such as poor circulation and inflammation. Mesotherapy stimulates collagen synthesis while the boosters improve skin tone, texture, elasticity and radiance.

How much does it cost at a Med Spa?

Mesotherapy typically cost between $250 and $450 per body part per treatment. The average patient gets treatment on two to three body parts.

Cost of Mesotherapy at Home?

Mesotherapy with a quality skin booster costs about $100 for the experienced DIYer. If the booster is used sparingly, it can be used for two treatments bringing the at home cost down to $50 per treatment (excluding the initial investment of topical annestetic, gloves, gauze, alcohol, post treatment cream, and needles.
