DIY Lash Extensions | Lilac St. Uptown Lashes

Lashes are my security blanket! After having thyroid cancer in my twenties, my lashes thinned out to nearly nothing. Lashes instantly gave me confidence and an improved sense of self. As superficial as that sounds, when something is lost due to illness, there is a feeling of power and regaining what was lost. Lashes do that for me. Lilac St. Lashes are affordable and very high quality. To date they are my absolute favorite for DIY lash extensions and last me about 5 days on my tiny lashes. You can browse what Lilac St. has to offer here.

If you’ve tried Lilac St. Lashes or have a brand that you really love, please share in the comments. Thank you for being a part of the Gorgeously Aging community! Sending hugs and love. xoxo

Maybelline Dream BB Fresh | GRWM

Over the past few years as I’ve focused on improving my skin, I’ve backed waaayyyyy off on foundation. I found myself just not liking the way makeup was starting to look on my skin; without even thinking about it, I started wearing less makeup. Over the past thirty years in the beauty industry, I’ve notice that women who have a hard time giving up full coverage makeup are actually aging themselves in an attempt for a flawless face. Heavy foundations tend to accentuate every fine line and wrinkle, and look cakey throughout the day. The joys of aging! It’s hard to say goodbye to those flawless full coverage days, but forcing ourselves out of old habits is sometimes what we need to look our best. (This is the same with hair, but that’s another blog post.)

Maybelline Dream BB Fresh is incredibly light in coverage, but feels great on the skin and offers some skin loving ingredients and SPF. It’s super affordable, which makes it a great option for those on a budget. Although it’s not my go-to BB cream, I do keep the Dream BB Fresh in my purse as a tinted moisturizer and sunscreen touch up. I love the hydration it provides, and being a sun screen zealot, I’m never without some type of sun screen for the face and body at all times. Overall I give the Maybelline Dream BB Fresh a solid 4 our of 5 stars, if you’re okay with very light coverage. Have you tried Dream BB Fresh? What did you think?

Check out how Maybelline Dream BB Fresh performed on my almost 50 skin in the video below. Thanks for watching!

Morphe x Madison Beer | Eyeshadow for Hooded Lids

For the longest time I didn’t buy or even consider trying Morphe makeup products simply because the marketing has always been so youth focused. It just felt like a product line for teens and young adults, which just never sparked my interest. I’m not sure when or why that mindset changed for me, but I’m so glad it did! (video below)

To my surprise, Morphe has some truly incredible products at excellent prices. My first Morphe buy was a Jaclyn Hill Palette, which I still use and love today. The Madison Beer Palette was one that jumped out at me for it’s warm color story. I didn’t even know who Madison Beer was until my teenage daughters enlightened me. These are the moments I feel really old. 😉 (This is what I mean about marketing for teens.)

“As much as I’d love to see companies like Morphe making more effort to market to us more mature women, I will admit to being wrong in my early assumption that their products just aren’t for mature skin; the Madison Beer Palette is not only stunning, the pigments are high quality and easy to work with! “

At Home Med Spa & Beauty Room Tour

Hello friends.

Covid brought with it some major setbacks; we tried to turn it into an opportunity to tackle some projects we might not otherwise have had the time to get around to. This past spring my husband and I converted our guest bedroom into a fully functioning YouTube studio, at home med spa, and beauty room. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s so organized and functional. It’ll take some time for me to get the decor the way I want it, but I’m truly trilled with the space. What do you think? Any suggestions?

June 2020 Favorites

Hello Beauties,

I have so many favorites for the month of June after skipping out on making a May favorites list. All of these are products I have truly loved and will definitely be purchasing again. If you’ve used any of these products, let me know how you liked them, and what your current favorites are, in the comments. I’d love to hear what gems you’ve discovered!

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist SPF 70 – This sunscreen not only gives you the anti aging sun protection you’d expect from an SPF 70 sunscreen, but it gives your skin a beautiful glow. I spray this on my shoulders and across my chest, just for the glow that it gives. It’s a tip I stumbled upon from J Lo’s make up artist Scott Barne’s, and ever since I stumbled on it, I’ve been obsessed.

CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream  – I love this night cream when my skin feel particularly dry, or after I’ve done a home chemical peel. It’s non irritating, rich , emollient and leaves my skin feeling so soft. This is a cream I always keep on hand. CeraVe makes some fantastic products!

Marula Oil Rare Oil Perfecting Hairspray – There was a time I wanted the firmest hairspray available. The days when my hair hit the roof of my car when I was driving. Those days, although I think of them fondly, are long gone for me. I prefer a softer hold, touchable hairspray. This Marula Oil Perfecting Hairspray is perfect for my naturally wavy, color treated hair.

Pravana The Perfect Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner – My hair has always had the tendency to pull gold when I color or foil my hair. This Pravana Shampoo and Conditioner truly helps to tone the gold and it smells AMAZING. It’s incredibly pigmented so I only use it when I feel I need the toning effects, which is about once a week. Overuse can definitely give your hair an ashy/purple tone.

Lipliner set from Amazon – This set of lipliners was an incredible fine for me. As a make up junkie and YouTuber, I review a ton of products. I’m not kidding when I say that these affordable liners, stand up against the most expensive in my collection. They go on smoothly, have great pigment, and stay on all day. I love it when I stumble upon a treasure like this.

Elf+ Glow Dewy Mist – I wear a mask every day at work as a permanent cosmetics artist, which causes some skin dryness and irritation after a long day at work. When I have breaks, I refresh my skin with the Elf+ Glow Mist. Loaded with coconut water and argan oil it’s a treat for the skin. I’ve found it to be very soothing. I keep one in my office for those long days of mask wearing, and another bottle at home so I can use it after I’ve been outside doing yard work. Anytime your skin needs a little extra refresh, this is a wonderful, and affordable option.

Catrice Basic Bae Eyeshadow Palette – This palette is GORGEOUS!! And so richly pigmented and bendable. I have never been drawn to Catrice products, and I’m mad at myself for not giving the brand some attention sooner. This is a fantastic palette, and the pricing on this brand are so affordable!

Honest Beauty cream blush color Peony Pink – I’m just starting to test various products from Honest Beauty, but when it comes to love at first sight, the performance of the Peony Pink blush, won my heart. It blends gorgeously! It can be worn alone without any other makeup, for a slight flush of the cheeks, or work under or over other make up. Regardless if I put it on over other creams, or dab a little bit on after I’ve already powdered my face, it melts into the skin like magic.

Michael Kors Perfume Glam Jasmine – I don’t change up my perfume very often. The mood struck me for something new, so I ordered a bottle of theMichael Kors Glam Jasmine, and I’m so glad I did. My husband comments that I smell good every time I wear it. It’s a light jasmine aroma with some hints of citrus and other goodness mixed in. I’m not usually one for floral aromas, but this is a perfectly balanced aroma.

Covergirl CG Smoothers BB Cream 810 Light to Medium – It’s been years since I purchased a Covergirl product. I was picking up a prescription at Walgreens and the word “smoothers” caught my eye. I figured I’d better give it a try to see if it has any smoothing properties. Surprisingly this is a really wonderful tinted moisturizer. It does in fact add hydration and some smoothing to the skin. It doesn’t provide much coverage, but it does lightly even out the skin tone. This is not a product you’d reach for if you want a full glam make up look, but I keep it in my bathroom drawer and use it on those days I want to look polished but not too “makup-y”. It also has an SPF of 21, so any additional sun protection is great for the skin. I’m glad I found it.

Winky Lux Lip Balm – Isn’t this the cutest packaging? I love how this lip balm feels going on the lips. I keep one in my purse and one in my vanity for putting on my lips before bed (with a layer of Aquaphor over top). The packaging definitely drew me in, but I’ll keep buying it for the way my lips feel.

Josie Meran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 – If you have aging skin that leans on the dry side, this daily SPF moisturizer is absolutely beautiful. It’s lightly tinted, soothing, hydrating and gives the skin a lovely glow with or without makeup. This may not be the right choice for anyone with oily skin, but it does absorb into the skin nicely after about five minutes and feels like silk. This is right up their at the top of my list as one of my favorite sun screens ever for the face.

Thanks so much for stopping by, you guys. I always appreciate your support of my blog and YouTube Channel.

Hugs and well wishes,

Stacy

Flower Beauty for Mature Skin?

Blush Bomb

Hello beautiful.

I recently decided to go all in on a full face of Flower Beauty. I’ll be honest and admit that the brand had never really pulled me in until recently. I happened to be browsing the beauty isles at Walmart when I saw that the Flower Beauty section was dwindling to almost nothing. I thought maybe the brand hadn’t done well and Drew Barrymore was on to other antrepreneurial adventures. Standing in the isle, I googled, “Where can I buy Flower Beauty”, and found that the brand will no longer be sold in Walmart stores, but will be available from the Flower Beauty website, and are also available on Amazon. Because there were a few lonely Flower Beauty makeup brushes on the shelf, I decided to give them a good home, and quickly fell in love. The next day I placed my first Flower Beauty order online.

I can’t say every single product I used was a smashing success, but I have to hand it to Drew Barrymore, the creator of Flower Beauty, and her team; they have done a fantastic job curating products that not only look beautiful on young skin, but also work wonderfully on mature skin as well. This isn’t the case with all brands, so I do appreciate a brand that takes aging skin into consideration.

There was nothing in the Flower Beauty collection that I hated. There was nothing that didn’t perform well. The price point is great for what feels more like a luxury product than a drug store brand; maybe that’s why they moved away from Walmart. I’m in no way paid to say these things. This is my own opinion on products I paid for myself. Here are the things that definitely stood our for me as hits in the Flower Beauty lineup.

  • Flower Beauty Light Illusions Foundation $14 – I have paid three times this for foundation that performed half as well as Light Illusions. The foundation claims to be long wearing and luminous with a nude skin feel. It also has an SPF of 18, although not heavy on the UV protection, it’s a nice pairing to a good facial Sunscreen (I love the Elta MD UV Daily Tinted. It’s my ride or die sunscreen for the face.)
  • Flower Beauty Light Illusions Concealer $10 – This is a great concealer for anyone that wants their under eyes to look hydrated and smooth. I’ve used so many concealers that are so heavily pigmented and matte that they instantly cake to the skin under the eye. That type of concealer might be fantastic for women in their 20’s and early 30’s, but once our skin starts to mature, it needs more nourishment, hydration, and a slightly less intensely pigmented concealer. This concealer does the job for women of all ages, but I especially appreciate that it’s easy on the wrinkles around the eyes. The downside to these products is that you’re not able to test them in a store to determine what shade is best for you, and unfortunately the concealer I purchased was a little too yellow in it’s undertone than I would normally prefer, but the formula is wonderful and I’ll definitely try to get as much use out of it as I can, even though the undertone is a little off for me.
  • Flower Blush Bomb $10 – This blush is absolutely beautiful!!! If there is a shining star in the Flower Beauty collection, it’s the blush bomb. This soft cream blush blends into the skin like a dream to give a flawless flush to the cheeks. I’m obsessed with this blush in the color pinched! It literally gives the cheeks just a gorgeous hint of a flush that is so pretty. I really hope this is a product that stays in the collection for years to come, because it’s one of my very favorite blush formulas of all time.
  • Flower Heatwave Bronzer $9 – At first glance I thought this bronzer was going to have too much sheen for my taste, which usually means it emphasizes enlarged pores. That wasn’t the case at all. The subtle marbling of sheen in the bronzer adds a pretty sheen without being too intense or overpowering. The texture is smooth and bendable. I’ll definitely get full use out of this bronzer, which I am truly surprised I’m saying. I’d almost decided before I had even used it that I wouldn’t like it. Shame on me for not having an open mind. 🙂
  • Flower Lift and Sculpt Contour Palette $14 – So, if you prefer a matte bronzer, which I often do, the Flower Lift and Sculpt Contour Palette has a beautiful bronzer/contour color, a lovely blush, and very usable highlight. At first glance I thought the highlight would go onto the skin looking too gold/yellow for my preference, but it really provided a gorgeous glow to the highpoint of the face that is much prettier than the way the color looks in the pan. I like to layer my cream blush with a little bit of setting powder and then a light dusting of powder blush, so this palette was perfect as reinforcement. On the days I’m in a hurry, this will be a palette I reach for.

Although all the Flower Beauty items I tried were very good, these are the things that really stood out to me as things I’ll use up and possibly buy again. If you’re interested here’s a video of how I put the Flower Beauty makeup to work on my 48 year old skin.

Elf Cosmetics Tutorial

If you’re on a budget, Elf Cosmetics is certainly a great option for make up. I’m often amazed at the quality considering the price point. My favorite Elf product is the matte eyeshadow palette. It’s extremely pigmented and blends quite well.  Check out this video and see what you think.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Palette

For any beauty junky, scoring a beautiful eyeshadow palette makes for a happy day. The Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette is one of my favorites with it’s rich formulation and beautiful colors. The scent of peaches when you open the well made metal palette is such a treat. Personally, I love the warm matte colors the palette has to offer, but there are a variety of cool tones and shimmer shadows as well.

Here’s a video showcasing an eye look using the Sweet Peach Palette.

October Favorite Beauty Products

Hey beauties. Now that we’re all most into November, I thought I’d share my absolute favorite products from October. All of these products I have purchased with my own money, so none of my favorites are sponsored or free products. All my recommendations are always based on my honest opinion after using for several weeks. Click on the photos to check out the Amazon reviews and pricing.

  1. The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Aging Perfector is AMAZING!! It’s not a full coverage foundation, but gives the perfect hydrating coverage to smooth the skin for a beautiful every day look. It goes on the skin like silk and contains both sun screen and retinol to improve your skin tone, texture and fight those fine lines. Retinol is safe for use during the day with sunscreen, where Retin-A (Tretinoin) must be applied at night. This is truly a product I will continue to use. If the coverage isn’t enough for you, use this as a treatment primer and add a little bit of full coverage foundation over the top.

2. Kat Von D hit a home run with her Shade & Light Contour Pallette. The pigmentation is fantastic, and the powder is so incredibly smooth. I love the banana colored powder for setting my under eye concealer. I find myself reaching for this palette every single day.

3. Mac blush in the color Melba is GORGEOUS! To date, it’s the most beautiful, long wearing, blush I’ve ever used!

4. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Sand is just as good, if not better, than many of the popular high end concealers. It’s a great dupe for the NARS creamy concealer in custard. I’ve been reaching for this concealer more than any other in my arsenal.

5.  I’ve been using the Pixi Glow Tonic for a few weeks under my Obagi C Exfoliating Day Lotion, and I absolutely love it! Anything that contains Glycolic Acid is going to brighten and even the skin tone. Glycolic acid is a wonderful exfoliator and with consistent use will reduce hyper pigmentation (age spots) and sun damage.

Fall Drug Store Make Up Tutorial

Hey friends.

I recorded this fall make up look using only drug store products. There are some really amazing cosmetics available at reasonable prices; you don’t have to drop a fortune at Sephora to have a gorgeous look.

I’m still new to this whole video making thing, please bare with me as I get comfortable. 🙂

Dollar Store Make Up Challenge

I was challenged by my daughters to do a full make up application using only dollar store products! This was a huge challenge, but we had a lot of fun with it. 🙂 What do you think of the finished result?
