TARGET HAUL – February 2023

Hey Friends.

Now that I’m living in the mountains, I’m about 45 minutes away from the nearest Target. Needless to say I don’t get there as often as I use to when we lived just a few minutes away from a Target. I’ve definitely learned to embrace online shopping, I’m so grateful that technology allows us access to shop in a way that wasn’t possible when I was young. Having said that, I do miss browsing sometimes, so I do get to an actual Target store once a month just to browse and have that shopping experience where I put things in an ACTUAL cart.

Here are all the things I picked up in my February Target Haul. Have you used any of these products? I’d love to hear what you’re using and loving from Target!

Salon Quality Blow Out at Home – Le Volume by L’Ange

Hello friends.

Many of you know I spent my entire adult life in the beauty and aesthetics business owning salons & spas, and later a permanent cosmetics business. Beauty, hair, and skin have always been a passion, and my life’s work. I love finding ways for women to feel not only feel beautiful, but save money.

The video below shows you how to get a beautiful salon quality blow out at home. A few tips, it’s best to allow your hair to be nearly dry before using the blow brush. You can certainly use it on towel dried hair out of the shower, but if you have time to grab some coffee and check your emails; go for it! That allows your hair to air dry a bit before going in with the Le Volume blow brush.

Something I’ll note. I have tried a few other less expensive blow brushes. One from Target and another from Walmart. Neither gave the same result as the L’Ange Le Volume brush. These brushes are definitely budget friendly options, but may disappoint when it comes to the finish they produce.

A few hair products I’d recommend trying that ARE budget friendly are by OGX. I’m a little obsessed with that brand right now.

OGX Coconut Curls Shampoo

OGX Coconut Curls Conditioner

OGX Coconut Curls Air Dry Cream

OGX Silk Blowout

OGX Organ Oil Dry Oil Mist

The Beauty of Biotin

A few years back I stumbled on an article about the benefits of biotin for your fingernails. I’ve always had extremely thin nails that just don’t grow much beyond my finger tip. Although I was skeptical, I wanted to give biotin a shot to see if myself if it actually improved my nails. I was pleasantly surprised that it not only improved my nails, but my hair was longer and healthier than it had been in years.

Biotin, a B complex vitamin, not only strengthens hair and nails, it also supports the metabolism, helps regulate blood sugar, lowers cholesterol and improves the health of your skin. It’s definitely worth giving it a try.

This is the brand I use.

My Favorite Products for Dry Hair

I’ve always had dry, naturally wavy hair. The effects of aging, and coloring my hair make it even more important to use products that keep my hair looking healthy.

Having more than 20 years as a hair salon owner, I’ve used thousands of products on my hair; these are my current favorites.

The Sebastian Drench line of products have been my holy grail dry hair products for the past six months. Finding products that keep my hair feeling, and looking soft and healthy is so important to me. These products are truly worth every penny, and a little bit goes a long way.

I also use the deep conditioning treatments once a week. I just wash my hair as normal, squeeze out the excess water (sometimes I even lean my head out of the shower and towel off my hair a little bit so the product can really get into the hair. If it’s too saturated with water, the product can’t get into the hair as effectively) and apply a liberal amount of deep conditioner and let sit for about five minutes while I finish up in the shower.

The Taming Elixir is applied to damp hair prior to styling. I blow dry and use a curling iron on my hair, so this products adds some heat protection, humidity resistance and a little extra softness to my dry hair. It’s light weight, so it doesn’t weigh the hair down, or give it a greasy look.

If you’re struggling with solutions for keeping your dry or naturally textured hair looking healthy, give the Sebastian Drench products a try. I’m not paid or given free products to review; this is my unbiased review based on personal use.

If you have any hair care products you love for dry hair; I’d love to hear about them in the comments below.

5 Benefits of Coconut Oil

Aside from the well documented health benefits associated with the consumption of coconut oil, there are some compelling reasons to incorporate coconut oil into your beauty regimen. Here are five benefits of coconut oil that I have tried and keep in my beauty rotation. It’s important to use an organic virgin coconut oil. I use this one. If you haven’t used coconut oil before, it’s important to know that it solidifies in cooler temperatures and needs to be warmed in your hand before using.

1. As an eye make up remover. The coconut oil makes quick work of removing eye make up with the added benefit of keeping the skin around the eyes smooth and hydrated. Because there are so many truly wonderful beauty related uses for coconut oil, I’d definitely recommend keeping a jar in your bathroom.

2. As a night time facial moisturizer. If you have a tendency toward dry skin like I do, you’ll find that a little bit of coconut oil massaged into the face and neck before bed will leave your skin feeling baby soft by morning. It’s like a deep conditioning for the face. I do this every Sunday night after using a 30% glycolic acid peel. (I talk more about the benefits of glycolic acid and how to use it safely at home in another post.)

3. As a deep condition for the hair. I have naturally course wavy hair. Once a week I put my hair into a pony tale and coat the hair in the pony tale with coconut oil and then wrap it up into a bun and cover it with an old sock before I go to bed. This keeps the oil from getting all over the pillow. In the morning, rinse and wash as normal, followed by an appropriate conditioner for your hair type.

4. As a body scrub. This might be my favorite use for coconut oil. I mix white sugar with equal parts coconut oil and keep it in a plastic container in my shower for a wonderful body scrub. You’ll be amazed at how silky and smooth this leaves your skin. I love how my legs look after I’ve used this scrub.

5. Massage oil. My daughters are swimmers that love to have their back and shoulders massaged after a tough practice; coconut oil is the perfect organic massage oil for soothing sore muscles.

Because I’m an avid Amazon shopper and Prime member, I buy as much as I can online. I’m sure there are other brands of organic coconut oil available at department stores in your area. This is the brand that I use and love. It’s always nice to check out the reviews and see what type of uses and experiences other people have had with it.
